I remember seeing a Rothko show in the Guggenheim. I wanted to paint like him. His large canvases were like entrances into another dimension. I wanted to paint like Rothko and others in his day making beautiful monochromatic, color work. So I tried.

Joe Barnes work is amazing. People who never were seduced by the rainbow, and found serenity there, doesn't know how difficult this is.

thanks for this great article. i love his story, his paintingss and his studio.
