A 65-foot hot dog is back in Times Square, and I kind of admire it

Jen Catron and Paul Outlaw have reinstalled their enormous hot dog sculpture in Times Square, this time decked out with patriotic toppings to mark the country's 250th anniversary. The piece stretches 65 feet long, which is a commitment to a concept I can respect. I spend my days trying to coax a single pigment granulation to behave on a quarter sheet of Arches, and meanwhile someone out there is engineering a skyscraper-length frankfurter for midtown Manhattan. Scale like that takes a totally different kind of courage. What's the most unexpectedly ambitious art you've encountered in a public space?
