Andy Warhol born — 1928

On August 6, 1928, Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as Andrew Warhola to Slovak immigrant parents.

Warhol would grow into the defining figure of Pop Art, transforming commercial imagery and celebrity culture into fine art. His silkscreen portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Campbell's Soup Cans, and Brillo Boxes blurred the line between high art and mass production. He founded The Factory, a legendary studio where art, film, music, and counterculture collided. Warhol believed everyone would be famous for fifteen minutes, and his work turned that prophecy into a visual language. He painted repetition, consumerism, and fame with the same cool gaze, making the mundane monumental.

His legacy reminds working artists that inspiration lives everywhere, that the everyday object holds as much power as the classical subject, and that the act of seeing differently is the artist's ultimate tool.
