Hey! Love that you actually tested this and tracked the response. That's the part most artists skip, and the fact that you saw a measurable jump in engagement tells you something real about how your audience wants to experience your work.

The short answer: if it gets more eyes on your handmade painting and drives more conversations, use it. The painting is the product. The short video is the marketing. You're not replacing the art, you're giving people a new reason to stop scrolling and look at it.

A few angles worth thinking about:

- The engagement spike you saw is the data point that matters most. Collectors don't buy from one static image anymore. They buy from repeated, multi-format exposure: the painting, the process, the story, the video. A short animation of a portrait pulls people in emotionally in a way a flat photo can't.

- Lean into the "handmade" angle hard in the caption and the video itself. The contrast between "I painted this by hand 7 years ago" and "here's what it looks like brought to life" is the hook. It makes the human craftsmanship more visible, not less.

- Use the video as the top-of-funnel attention grabber, then pin the original painting as the thing for sale. The video is the ad. The painting is the product. Keep that separation clear and your audience will too.

- One thing to watch: if you post ONLY the animated version without showing the original, some people will assume the whole thing was machine-made. Always show the painting first or side-by-side so the craftsmanship stays front and center.

You already proved the concept works with your own audience. Now it's just about doing it consistently and making sure the original always gets the spotlight.
