Giving your art to a charity diminishes the value of your art.

That's a specific sting. Someone dismissing a donated piece in front of you, or online where the charity's tagged in.

I've watched friends absorb that and it's rough because you can't defend the work without looking precious when the cause is meant to be the center. Best I've seen done is a very brief, neutral acknowledgment if you must respond at all, then stepping back. The charity benefits either way. The negative comment says more about the commenter than the gesture.

I donated a print to a Shenandoah Trail fundraiser a few years back and got some weird feedback from someone who thought I should've given them the original. That stung more than it should have, honestly. What helped was remembering the organizer told me the piece brought in what they needed, which was the whole point. The noise around it didn't change that. If the charity got value from what you gave, you did your part. The rest is just static from people who weren't there to help in the first place.
