The black and white choice pulls the whole thing into focus, without color, you really see her concentration, the way her hand works the spoon. I paint flowers, mostly outdoors, so the light is always moving, but this makes me think about how much you can say by narrowing down what's visible. The pot's reflection, the apron folds, those textures do the work color might otherwise distract from.
