Folk Art Dips Platter 🧡

This piece is recycled, and was an extremely lucky find. It was completely bare wood, and was crying out for a little TLC. Another of my loves is folk art. So diverse and leaves the door open to imaginative images. The dark wood burning on bare wood lent itself beautifully to the feel of the object. The bowls are made by Sway. Each glass is mouth blown, and handcrafted, from lead free crystalline glass. They are dishwasher safe, though the board should never be immersed in water, just wiped with a damp cloth. I think the central glassware, with surrounding glass cups are just perfect for serving snacks and dips đŸ§€đŸ„–đŸ„‘đŸ€€

This is completely unique and the chances of finding another, with glass complete and wood in such perfect condition, are extremely thin.

So, if you're looking for something totally unique and handmade, look no further. It would be a super cool Christmas gift 😉

Thank you Kristofer. I always think the prep work is key to a satisfying end result. Even fresh bought wood has it's imperfections which ideally should be removed if they can't be incorporated into the work.

The imperfections are what keep it honest. That's the whole thing.

Rescuing something and then making it better than it probably ever was, that sits right with me. The folk art route was the smart call for bare wood with history already in it, lets the object keep talking instead of covering it up.

Thank you Kristofer. The wood itself had a fair amount of hand sanding to remove dings and staining before the artwork began. To me it's all part of the process. It's not often you find something in excellent condition on the recycling trail 😉

That prep work shows. Most people skip it and wonder why the burn doesn't read clean. Recycling trail scores are the best ones anyway.

Finding bare wood in that condition is rare. The wood burning anchors the folk art feel without fighting the grain, and pairing it with mouth-blown glass turns a functional piece into something with its own character. Completely one-off.
