I wasn't sure in which community to post this, so I landed here. My subjects are typically coastal themed. I also like vintage subject (that could also be coastal). It seems there is a fine line between art and decor, maybe even a bit blurry. How do you define Art vs Decor?
The main difference: decor blends with the style and, often the color pallets of a room etc. The work is meant to compliment a space, to fit in to a space. It's like having the right chair or rug that suits the room. Decor isn't a main focal point, because it needs to blend in with it's surroundings.
Art doesn't concern itself with blending into a room. Where art is compelling, decor is usually not.
