Description
In late June 2026, French artist JR’s La Caverne du Pont Neuf transformed the oldest bridge in Paris into an immersive artwork of extraordinary scale.
Measuring 125 metres in length, over 20 metres in width and rising to 18 metres high, the inflatable installation created the presence of a mountain range in the heart of Paris. A fleeting monument suspended above the Seine, it also served as a homage to Christo, who famously wrapped the entire bridge forty years earlier.
Rendered in sumptuous black and white, with the rich tonal contrasts typical of Ian Borthwick's work, the image is shaped by an exceptionally long four-minute exposure, transforming the clouds into a slow veil of movement above central Paris.
Balancing architectural permanence with the quiet movement of time, the work reflects on transformation and the shifting relationship between the natural and the artificial.
