Description
This is the first in what has become a very rich body of work. Specimen 1 breaks away from the two-dimensional surface to accentuate the membrane-like appearnce of oil paint in abstract works. Using layers of plywood to build a three-dimensional, raised-relife landscape, I present an object that comes off the wall to meet the viewer. Although Specimen 1 is meant to illicit a visceral response, it is up to the viewer to determine if is a comfortable or repulsive one.
