"Before Oakland Wakes" shows that while most of Oakland sleeps, the crew at the historic Oakland Produce Market keeps the city’s food supply moving. Operating from the same buildings since 1907, these essential workers serve small independent stores across Alameda and Contra Costa counties. This image, made in 2021 at the height of the COVID pandemic, honors the behind-the-scenes labor that helps sustain our communities.
