When I started thinking of a title for this piece, the first thing that came to mind was abundance. I tried other words and phrases but couldn't shake my first thought. And the more I look at it the more appropriate it feels. Abundance. We often strive and work for things, objects, whatever is the latest and greatest. But we don't often take note of the abundance we already have, and that costs us nothing. Nature. The ocean. Surf. Wildlife. Toes in the sand. Breathing fresh air. Time. A moment lost in thought. A bird's chirp. A friend's laugh. A lover's embrace. The list is endless. This piece feels like a pause to appreciate that abundance.
I've had the idea for this piece in mind for quite a while. It's really good to see it come to fruition. A photo of a woman whose hair curled in the breeze similar to a wave sparked the idea. My wife has a part in this piece too in that she came up with the idea to do part of it underwater. I originally was going to have the wave and hair give way to surface reflections. But splitting it to be partially underwater worked out perfectly and allowed me to create an even better flow to the piece.
