The tired tide, so slowly awakes, to float my boat, so my back aches! A slack tide at daybreak created good conditions for a sunrise shoot along the shores of Kaneohe bay. Before the sun broke the horizon, an old pickup truck pulled over not far from my position and this fisherman unloaded his kayak and gear while I captured the changing light on the cliffs across the bay and other interesting compositions of boats and islands. After an hour I had exhausted my angles and options and the dramatic light had softened substantially, but I was intrigued by this fisherman’s slow, casual preparation for his work day. So I waited to see if he would make a move across the tidal flat into my preferred angle of view. The tide was rising by now and the foreground would soon be submerged and less visually appealing. The thought occurred to me that he might just be waiting for the tide to arrive and float his boat over the flats. I didn’t want to wait much longer so I began breaking down my tripod when he made a move for the water. It was a bit of a scramble to get back in position but I managed to capture this one telling moment of this lone fisherman’s effort to ply his daily trade. It was the prized reward of my morning's shoot, and I packed up happy that I had ventured out and stayed. It's these kind of unexpected rare moments that ingnite my passion for my imagery. The human drama draws the viewers interest up a notch and I am grateful for the natural unfolding of this "day in the life" story that I was able to capture and share here.
