Part of my Friends Series, this piece was inspired by a historical photograph from the socialist era in Warsaw, depicting one of two young women working together in a bakery. Although I never knew their real relationship, I imagined her as a good friend, united with the other by circumstance and resilience. I found myself wondering about their lives—where she and her friend might be today, and what stories they would tell. Despite the challenges of their time, this friend seemed to embody good humor, charm, and the enduring innocence of youth. Through this portrait, I aim to honor her spirit and invite viewers to reflect on the strength found in everyday moments of connection. This evocative portrait captures a fleeting moment, where the subject’s expression hints at a rich inner world. Rendered in an abstract style, the painting uses soft, muted tones to set the figure apart from the background, allowing the viewer to focus on the subtle details of her face and the emotions they convey. Gentle shifts of light and shadow create a sense of depth, encouraging the viewer to imagine the narrative behind her gaze.
