I enjoy the discipline of drawing—clean contours, carefully rendered pattern, controlled shading—allowing me to translate animals and nature into a visual language that feels intimate with each drawing. This drawing of a mama and baby zebra is an excellent example of how the animals defined black and white fur contrasts with the brilliant flowers and butterflies. The african tree places them in their natural surroundings.
I am fascinated by the graphic clarity of animal markings against a flush of botanical color. I try to capture the small gestures of each animal to tell their story, as shown in this drawing, giving a deep sense of the emotional connections of the animals.
