Swagmen looking for farm work in the outback would sleep under the stars and have a billy to boil tea in and a cast iron pot to bake damper, a simple soda bread. If there wasn't a pot then the damper would be baked in the hot ashes. The old man is looking on as he recalls his time as a swaggy boiling the billy for a strong black cup of tea.
