So Many Communities

Yikes! The Communities have already proliferated like rabbits!! Will there be a way to keep them from getting out of hand? It took me a few minutes to find this community today so I could ask this question.

In case you guys are wondering we are (internally) grappling with the exact same questions. Short answer is we don't know yet. Too early. Too many features we are going to start adding at an increasingly frequent rate. The majority of which will drastically change how the community looks, feels, and drives.

Ultimately we will likely need to make a community call soon. In the meantime keep leading us feedback.

I had similar thoughts along these lines. It's a wonderful thing to have lots of communities - that means people are engaging the system. There is a continuum from 'not enough communities' to 'everyone has their own private gated community'. (I am using gated metaphorically). It seems like if there are too many communities with significant amounts of overlapping similarity it will dilute the value of the whole project. I'm not sure how you control this unless the process of setting up a community has to go through some kind of approval process. And I'm not necessarily a fan of that model either. I suppose in an ideal world people would search through communities and if someone has already set up one that is 'close enough' to their interests they won't bother creating another one.
