A Summer Love Song 🌻

Calling on the colors and textures of the summer sky, I created this hand glitched scanograph using sunflowers from my neighbor’s front yard in Southern California, and a mottled hand painted paper background. Every summer my neighbor’s front yard is overtaken by these wild and extremely tall sunflowers. They grow densely with multiple flowers on each stalk and the bees just love them. I love them too so each year I try to create artwork with them. Hand glitched while being captured, this image reminds me of how quintessentially slow summer can feel while still somehow moving so fast that it’s gone in the blink of an eye. These flowers only exist with this vibrancy for a few weeks each summer before they’re gone. Capturing them at their peak is peak summer for me and it’s the image I look to most on dreary winter days.
