Where Art and Faith Meet | Convent of Christ, Tomar, Portugal

Within the walls of the Convent of Christ, centuries of artistic expression come together.

A place where art, faith and history remain deeply intertwined, preserving an important part of Portugal’s cultural heritage.
Thank you, Iris. It was definitely the history that first drew me to this place. The Charola was built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century, with a remarkable 16-sided outer structure. According to tradition, its design even allowed knights to attend religious services on horseback, although this has never been historically confirmed. Centuries later, art transformed the space without erasing its origins. The light simply helped me capture that extraordinary connection between history, faith and art.
