Art Fairs

Which Air Fair Organizers are best to work with?

I am concidering expanding my vendor shows out of state. Have heard that some Art Fair Organizers are better to work with than others. Any recommendations? Currently I am getting emails from Art Fair Calendar. Anyone better? Any organizers to avoid?

I really want to explore making a centralized database of all the Arthur organizers. We should have Resources where everything is pooled into one database that you guys have access to.

Thanks Patrick. Look forward to seeing that. Have heard rumblings of how some shows are so hard to get into. Sometimes it's over the tent set up more than the art. Yet, I can see where organizers don't want to keep dealing with tents that make problems for other vendors depending on weather and how they are anchored too. I've primarily only done indoor events to not have to clean my art after the event. But that's been a bit naive and I need to expand.

It all comes down to the jury selection. I find it is best to contact them before I apply, not the jury but the organizers.

That would be helpful. Even a split for regions would help.

Great idea! I’ve been collecting art show calls and agree with the list above. Look forward to seeing what ASF develops. Always looking out for us!!

do you belong to any art societies locally? you can get helpful info from them. Zapp lists lots of shows all over the country. find one you think might fit and call the organizer to get more details and ask questions. i do shows in the mountain west. once you are on the mailing list for a show location you will often get advance notice from those entities. Cafe Call for artists and then ArtCall are two others. Join Artists Network, they have reviews of shows and helpful information to get started.

Belonging to art societies?... that is a loaded Q&A. I do alot of Christian art and found out 20 years ago that most galleries don't want to touch it. So I've avoided art societies and galleries for a long time. Tired to pave my own way. Just recently joined a gallery locally. I'll look into Zapp, Cafe Call for Artists and ArtCall. Thank you for sharing those! I live in North Dakota and am interested in going somewhere warmer in the winter especially.

What state are you in? I use Howard Alan in S Florida. They do many shows around Florida and some out of state. In my opinion they are fine to work with. I’ve been with them for many years.

Thanks Claudia! S. Florida is one of the main places I am considering. We've liked FL during the winter especially. We recently walked through the Fort Myer festival early Feb. Unusually chilly their first night, this year. But since we are central to the US... we can also go west to Utah etc too. I'll look into Howard Alan.

I like Howard as well and have worked with him since the 90's. I also like the fact that you can rent a tent and pro panels from him if you don't want to go through the headache of setting up a tent anymore

I did two with Superfine! Art Fairs. They have changed their name, rebranded and shuffled their team. I would stay away. I have been told that "The Other Art Fair" is night and day different, but the financial risk remains high as it is another major city, big venue, indoor, high booth fee outfit.
