Description
I couldn't resist painting "Strasburg Steam Engine" at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, Pennsylvania!
This Union Pacific "Big Boy" No. 4012 has returned to Steamtown after an extended cosmetic restoration.
The place had this amazing energy--the slow build of steam, the hum of waiting passengers, and the solid presence of the train against the open sky.
I focused on simplifying the shapes and values to keep the moment honest and expressive. The warm tones and rising mist give it a feeling of memory. There's so much story in that stillness before the engine moves!
Plan to visit Steamtown!
