Angel Light

In the depths of the canyon, the shadows on the red sandstone rocks of the Navajo Upper Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona, worn smooth by flash floods that carve the canyon, turn the rocks to deeper shades of reds, burgundies.  Where the light filtering down from above through cracks in the earth reaches the rocks, lighter reds, oranges, yellows, and even whites emerge.  I found an angel in the lights and shadows encircled by a heart shape in the stone where the lights began.  Its shape suggested a most passionate angel reaching straight into the heavens, while its garment was anchored to the shadows of Earth. I loved this moment and recorded it.  The canyons change every year with new floodwaters scouring the sandstone anew, and the light changes constantly depending on the season and hour of the day.  When we are in the wilderness, in the wildness of nature, the beauty that we find may be found just once: for the wild places change constantly, and the wildness experienced in the soul seeking rest may be felt differently even a second time around.
