In this large-scale 30 x 40 work, I wanted to capture the majestic, almost otherworldly presence of a white egret mid-stretch. I chose to set the bird against a dramatic, atmospheric background—using deep magentas and soft purples—to create a sense of dawn or dusk where the world feels most still.
The egret itself is rendered with thick, intentional brushwork to give its plumage a physical, textured presence. I surrounded it with stylized, sweeping greens and earthy browns to ground the bird in its natural marshland habitat, but I kept the forms abstract and fluid to maintain an ethereal quality. For me, this piece is about poise and preparation; it represents that quiet moment of tension before a great flight begins.
