The Light will penetrate even the depths of the Pipiwai trail bamboo thicket! If the path you are on has led you into the dark, just raise your eyes heavenward, you'll see.
Haleakala Nat'l Park extends to the ocean at Ohe'o gulch, a short ways past Hana, where you'll find a trail of about 4 miles to the 400 foot Waimoku Falls, a good stretch of which passes through this bamboo forest.
