Sarah Ann Bryson, my great great grandmother, left Ireland at the time of the Great Hunger to return to their homeland of Lanarkshire in Scotland. From there, her family emigrated to the United States and made the journey West, where she became one of the wives of my great great grandfather Perrigrine Sessions. Her mother-in-law wrote of her that "she knew the way of bees." In this painting, I see her dancing in the emerald hills of Ireland and fanciful with her bees. Her gray eyes were kind and her energy lovely enough to be loved by bees.
