The Guadalupe River in Texas has always been a place of quiet strength for me, its deep, calm waters watched over by ancient cypress trees that line the banks. This acrylic painting was completed just before the devastating flood of July 4th, 2025—a day that changed our landscape and our community forever. Many of these grand old cypresses, which had sheltered the river for generations, were swept away, along with so much more. In this piece, I focused on capturing the intricate textures of the bark and the way the roots reach into the riverbank, anchoring the trees against time and tide. The interplay of light and shadow across the water is a tribute to the resilience and shelter these trees provided. Now, this painting stands as a lament for what was lost, and a celebration of the enduring spirit of the Hill Country. By bringing “Guardians of the River” into your space, you’re not just adding a touch of Texas landscape to your home—you’re helping preserve the memory of these sentinels and supporting the journey of an independent Texas artist.
