I work in colored pencil often combined with pan pastels. The Micron ink .08 pen linework is necessary to produce crisp drawings for my coloring books. The contrast of the black and white pelicans make a more interesting drawing set against the light blue of the water. I incorporated my experimenting with zentangles to create an imaginary ocean wave crashing on the beach and the undertow feel of the ocean. I drew the small bubbles and drops in the air to give you a sense and feel of the crisp spray of the ocean as you walk along the pebbled beach.
My work details the rhythms that surround these two pelicans — the swell of water, the scatter of light, the small repetitions that make a shore feel alive. I am excited by and love to draw tension between visual rhythms and stillness and motion.
