Bethesda Art Fair Tips

Anyone have experience getting into Bethesda? I know it's super competitive, and I haven't made the cut in three attempts. I'm about to submit for this years and was wondering if anyone knows any quarks about how this one is juried?

I did a quick Google search and found a couple of tips that might help. Bethesda is known to be very competitive, with only a small number of finalists chosen from hundreds of submissions.

From what I saw, a few things that seem to matter:

* Submit a strong, cohesive group of images (not just your best random pieces).
* Make sure the image quality/presentation is really solid, since the first round is judged from files.
* Work usually needs to be recent.

Beyond that, the jury changes most years, so a lot can depend on who’s reviewing that cycle. Three attempts already means you’re clearly in the mix, sometimes it just takes the right year.

Good luck!!!

Yeah, the cohesive group is something I've started doing after some good advise from a seasoned local (about high-end events in general, not just Bethesda). I used to try to give a wide sample of what I have. That has apparently been a mistake for shows like this.

Bethesda is tough but totally worth pursuing! From what I've heard, they put a lot of weight on cohesive body of work — so presenting a focused, consistent style tends to score higher than showing your range. Also make sure your booth photos look polished since they jury from images. Don't give up after three tries, some artists get in on their 4th or 5th attempt. Good luck this year!
