Beneath the Blanket of Stories: oil on wood panel. I painted the Shycap mushroom character with a red cap and oversized glasses, absorbed in a book, while a small insect on a swing holds a soft, glowing light. This piece grew from a memory: reading a bedtime story to my son beneath the blanket, his little lantern tucked under the covers as I read aloud. I used the Shycap to represent that moment and the firefly-like insect to stand in for the lantern, turning a private ritual into a scene of gentle light and wide-eyed wonder. Rich greens and deep blues form a nocturnal backdrop, while warm highlights on the pages and lantern convey curiosity and comfort. This colorful, luminous work brings a playful, soothing presence to a nursery, reading nook, or any room that could use a quiet lift.
