Breath of the Forest(Artist’s Statement by Wainer Guimarães)
The Intuitive Journey My path as an artist began not in a classroom, but in the margins of childhood notebooks. After decades of silence, I returned to my "doodles" during a period of physical illness ten years ago. What began as a means of healing evolved into a digital exploration of color, light, and the subconscious. I do not paint what I see with my eyes, but what I feel in the silence. My work is a bridge between the digital medium and the organic pulse of the human spirit.
The Revelation of "Jesus da Amazon" Art is a conversation that is only completed by the viewer. For years, I viewed this particular work as a "mystical alien"—an otherworldly entity born from a love of neon palettes and abstract forms.
The piece found its true identity in 2022, when a young man from the Amazon, visiting for the Census, stood transfixed before it. Without hesitation, he named what I had painted: >Jesus of the Amazon.
In that moment, the "alien" became the "ancestral." The abstract strokes at the crown transformed into the headdress of an indigenous chief, and the electric colors became the life force of the rainforest. This work stands as a testament to the
"Universal Christ"
—a divinity that wears the skin, the spirit, and the vibrant colors of the land it protects.
It is a reminder that the sacred is not distant or "other," but woven into the very fabric of our world.
