I took this picture of the Witch Head Nebula just outside of Joshua Tree National Park at Sky's the Limit Observatory. It represents 4 hours of three minute exposures for a total of 103 exposures. I'm amazed at how much the name of the nebula fits. I can almost hear the witch's cackling laughter.
The Witch Head Nebula is located in the Orion Constellation. It is a reflection nebula and the blue color comes from the reflected star light of Rigel as well as the interstellar dust. The dust primarily reflects blue light just as atmospheric dust causes our sky to be blue.
