Beschreibung
Inspired by wild grasses, in its free, gestural action this drawing, in water-soluble graphite and graphite, moves away from representation to something more abstracted. It teeters on the edge between a line that mimics something seen and a gesture moving with pure energy. The monochrome wash provides depth and a contrast to the fine, dynamic line-work. Although I am naturally right handed, I often use my left hand to draw, as in this piece. It helps to disconnect me from the control that has been drilled into my right hand, and releases a freedom of movement and gesture I find more honest and alive.
