The reindeer that now live in Iceland were imported from Finnmark in Norway in 1787 and live exclusively in the East Fjords and the surrounding highlands. Reindeer, like the fox, thrive best in northern areas and in cold climates. They are beautiful and majestic herd animals and can often be seen in large groups in Fagradalur and now even down under human settlements in the East Fjords.
