Beschreibung
This memorial is located in Fáskrúðsfjörður, one of the many beautiful fjords in the eastern part of the country. The picture is of “Kross”, a memorial erected in memory of 49 French and Belgian sailors who died at sea off the east fjord in the nineteenth century.
In the background we see one of my favorite mountains, "Sandfell", a 743 meter high lithic rock, on the south side of the fjord. It is a classic igneous rock formation, estimated to be 600 meters thick, and one of the best examples of a Tertiary mountain found in the northern hemisphere.
