Late afternoon on the backside of San Clemente Island, out West. The ocean takes on a wholly different dimension out beyond SCI, a world of difference from the frontside and the inner waters.
The sun, salt, and wind are relentless. They seem to penetrate right through you, leaving you beaten, battered and exhausted by days end. Bluefin need to be covered immediately and iced almost instantly to ensure the highest quality product back at the markets. Time evaporates along with the gas supply, and the ice stock melts away adding heightened urgency as the day progresses. A possible gem emerged from the glare and I took my shot at capturing the moment.
What was first deemed unsatisfactory, after some time in the editing bay adjusting exposure, brilliance, color, light and a lot of other variables, the contrast of the different points of land that sprawl out into the Pacific began to come alive. The rugged terrain of the sea battered westside and the relentless sun and wind that pierce the soul.
