This mixed media drawing is a meditation on growth, development, and rebirth. Using the Egg of Life symbol from Sacred Geometry, each circle features Malawian-inspired chitenje patterns, representing the seven chakras.
Inspired by my five years working with UN agencies in Malawi, this artwork reflects the aspirations embedded in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and Malawi’s Vision 2063. It's a heartfelt wish and creative visualization to help the viewer more easily manifest their loftiest goals and dreams.
I began this piece in Malawi during my final months working with UN agencies in the country. The inspiration came from the determination and self-sufficiency of the Malawian people as they work to overcome the obstacles that have held them back.
The artwork then traveled with me to the USA, where I found myself backtracking and redoing some of the circles. This felt like a fitting metaphor for how we must acknowledge our mistakes, own them, and correct them before moving forward. It was finally completed in Italy, the country I recently moved back to after eight years living and working in the developing world.
This piece reflects the aspirations embedded in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and Malawi’s Vision 2063. It is a heartfelt wish and creative visualization to help the viewer manifest their loftiest goals and dreams, no matter where they are on their own journey.
