"The Big Bend Rapids” is an en plein air oil painted on watercolor block paper, by Don Gauger, created while he sat on the banks of the Paradise Stream below Paradise Falls in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains. From his vantage point above the water, Gauger concentrated on a single rock standing firm amid shifting green currents and foaming eddies, painting for some time before stepping back to find the scene suddenly complete. The Paradise Valley, he reflects, is truly a special place.
