Have you ever felt underwater—like the world pressed too hard, and the surface kept slipping further away? Breath was born in that suspended moment, where panic rises, yet hope flickers defiantly. It's the quiet terror of running out of air, paired with the fierce will to keep swimming. Effort, after all, is where bravery and belief collide—and the surface, though distant, is inevitable. Original = 12x24 inches acrylic and marker on canvas. Abstract Crosshatch + Tactile Acrylic. This is the piece I am most proud of. As time went on, I got more and more tired of having to choose between my black and white work and my color work. So eventually, I chose both simultaneously. This piece, "Breath" was the second attempt at fusing my painting and my marker work together. This experiment was different, and instead of scraping off the paint while it was wet, I left sections of it fully white so I could add my black to the white areas of the marker I didn't paint over. This piece is ultimately about the feeling of being underwater and feeling overwhelmed. Trying to get to the surface and being pressed in on by the dark. The feeling of air, the essential fuel source, escaping your lungs and rising faster than you're able to. But with resilience and hope as you slowly climb to the surface and start to see the beach underwater - ready to accept you when you arrive.
