

This is pt.1 of the large scale commission I did last winter. This one is 42” tall, by 84” wide.
I built the inner frame, stretched, fastened and primed the canvas, painted the art, and built the custom outer frame with repurposed barn wood, that I burnt then clearcoated.

Building the frame changes how you see the edges while you're painting. I've noticed that too, the way the physical construction of a piece dictates choices you didn't plan to make. The burnt wood finish pulls the whole thing into a specific temperature range.
