What are some of the items in your space that make your process happen. Beyond the necessary supplies. Which pallet, what brush holder, is there a wall organizer? Favorites and must haves. I saw @Lindy Cook Severns with these amazing looking charcoal stick holders and it really peaked my interest what other tools and items other artists use that I may have never seen and considered
The right tool holder matters more than people think. For me it's a red headlamp I can clip anywhere and find in pitch dark. Anything that doesn't make you hunt in the middle of the process.
That sounds great! Lightening has definately been a challenge at times. I got a canva light that I can adjust temperature and brightness. Its great when Im working flat down. On the easel is another story. I try to get natural light in the room but it can have its challenges.
I shoot on location mostly, so my version of this is what stays in the bag. One thing that's been constant: a small notebook for noting light conditions and angles before I set up. Sounds analog, but it's carried more weight than most of my gear.
I bet it is one of your most valuable resources.
I keep a journal of "color recipes" for every painting I do. That way I will know colors I used to mix and find my way back to a feel or time of day that was successful.
I realized this morning there a few things I am always doing and using for my process.
MakeUp brush cleaner mat.(even after using cleaner I can't believe how much more comes out of my brushes)
The Masters Brush Cleaner and hand soap (best I have found yet)
Glass jars ( I always leave a couple with clean water as it keeps me from ruining brushes because I always have somewhere to put one I'm notorious for a last minute detail when I have somewhere to be)
Masterson Sta-wet palette ( I got one for the first time for Christmas this past year and it has been a huge change to my process and ability as an acrylic painter)
Ready set paint- I work full-time so I'm finding it extremely important for me to always have a space where I'm 5 minutes at the most from starting something. Which means being disciplined to clean up and leave it reset or have a medium like watercolor pencils gouache paper readily accessible in a workable space.
Accessible supplies. Right now I am using and Ikea wide filed drawer set with with wheels on it. I I have a piece of glass on the top I use for a palette. My husband raised the current Ikea desk I use for my quick workspace so that it rolls under and gives me more space when I'm not using it.
My favorite palette is a 30x60 inch folding table covered with 4 mil plastic sheet! Lots of room to work/mix etc. Next favorite is a one eighth inch piece of HDPE--very smooth and the paint won't stick to it! Couldn't live without my natural sea sponges, tongue depressors and toothbrushes!
