l discovered this beauty growing beside an open-studio parking lot, clearly posing—as if sharing a secret only flowers know. Confident and utterly unbothered, it stood without a care in the world. I knew at once it had to become a painting. “Whispers of an Iris” watercolor.

Gus joined me and then took over the bed, grabbing the best sunny location and a good view of the garden. Do you let your pets on the bed?

Old Fashioned Beauty

As soon as I set up this Still life, the name Old Fashioned Beauty came to my thought. It was perfect. I had the title before I even put one brush stroke on the paper. With the antique Mason jars and the old-fashioned Mountain Laurel sitting on the cabin counter, it just set the tone.

"A Whale Of A Time" was painted from a place of pure joy.

As I worked on this piece, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of childlike wonder… the kind that fills the room and makes everything feel lighter and brighter. This one felt different to paint, it overflowed inside me with the feeling of joy.

There’s something so freeing about the whale breaking through the surface, simply being itself, uncontained and alive.

It’s a gentle invitation to let go, to release what you’re holding onto, and to allow yourself to fully experience joy… to laugh, to move, and to simply have a whale of a time. I mean, after all you only get one life.

I love expermenting with watercolour techniques and here it was good old salt which created the background texture for me, suggestive of foliage and evening clouds, in my painting Magical Flight. I do all I can to celebrate our precious and threatened wildlife. @Jan Calderwood Fine Art

Watercolar on black paper, not a logical choice so it tickled me. I started to experiment to see what is already known but also to see what does work. Here's one of my black collection. Abstract Rose. It has more views to it when you look at it from a different angle. I am very attracted to atmospheric work in the direction of abstrahims, it leaves me so much space to dream away.
