🎪 Show & Sell — Where to Display & Sell Your Art Around Sydney (July)

Happy July, Sydney artists! Winter is absolutely no reason to hibernate. This month the city and its neighbours are buzzing with markets, conventions, festivals and open-call databases that want your work on a table, a wall, or an online storefront. Whether you have never set up a booth before or you are ready to level up, there is something here with your name on it. Here is your practical, sorted, zero-fluff guide to showing and selling in and around Sydney through the end of July 2026.
🟢 Easiest to Start (beginner-friendly, low cost)
Inner West Artist Market (IWAM) via Artist Made (beginner-friendly, stall fees vary per event). IWAM pops up at community events and artist-run spaces across the Inner West on Gadigal Country. The organisers offer a range of fees and options so that all types of artists can participate, and they notify everyone on their free Artist List about two months before each market with the stall fee, venue details and an application link. Getting on that list now costs nothing and means you are first to hear about every upcoming date, including any surprise winter additions.
Chinatown Friday Night Markets (mixed, curated application; stall fee roughly $175 per night for a casual table stall). Every Friday night from 4 pm to 11 pm in Dixon Street Plaza, Haymarket, these markets showcase local designers and draw both locals and tourists week in and week out. The application is competitive but the organisers are open to working with newer sellers who have a strong concept, and the rolling application is open all the way through December 2026. Great for art prints, small originals, or illustrated goods that suit an energetic late-night crowd.
Neon Marketplace Sydney Stallholder Portal (beginner-friendly, fees vary). The NSW Government's Neon Marketplace lists expressions of interest across a wide variety of Sydney markets in one place, covering businesses from first-timers through to established names. It is a great single destination to register your interest for multiple Sydney market opportunities at once, including new and rotating locations you might not find anywhere else.
🟡 Step-Up Markets (curated, bigger crowds)
Kirribilli Art, Design and Fashion Market (curated, emerging-friendly; stall fees updated from June 2026, book quarterly online). One of Sydney's oldest and most popular markets, Kirribilli runs multiple weekends and features an artisan-only section in the Burton Street Tunnel alongside broader fashion and gift stalls. The July to September quarter bookings opened on 1 June 2026, so log in now to check availability. There is also a day-of waitlist at 8.45 am for any no-shows, which is a handy low-risk way to trial the market for the very first time.
Mellow Art Market: Starry Winter Edition, Sydney (emerging artists, illustrators and crafters; check mellowart.com.au for current stall status). Mellow Art is a creative platform for emerging artists, illustrators, crafters and small business owners with a love for art, stationery and merchandise, and their Sydney winter edition fills the Banquet Hall at the Masonic Centre with 40-plus artists selling stickers, prints, illustrations and artist merch. If you make things that skew fun, colourful or pop-culture adjacent, this is your crowd. Check their site for any remaining stall openings or to get on their waitlist for the next Sydney date.
Parramatta Midwinter Festival Winter Market (mixed levels, curated; check site for stall fees). Running Saturday 4 July through Saturday 18 July at Parramatta Square and Centenary Square, this two-week celebration of warmth and community draws massive crowds from across Greater Sydney for live entertainment, immersive installations, fire pits and a full winter market running day into night. Artisan and creative stallholders are part of the mix. Apply directly through the Parramatta Markets site and read the stallholder information before you do.
📢 Open Calls and Databases
Neon Marketplace (NSW Government) (all levels). This is the NSW Government's B2B hub connecting artists, makers and small businesses with markets, event producers and vacant spaces across NSW. Beyond the stallholder portal, it lists busking permits, mural commissions, festival stallholder calls and pop-up space opportunities. Bookmark it, visit weekly, and set up a profile so opportunities can find you.
Coal Loader Artisans Market, Waverton (Expressions of Interest) (curated, emerging-friendly; fees via North Sydney Council). The next Coal Loader market is Sunday 6 September 2026, but expressions of interest from stallholders are open now through the North Sydney Council website. This heritage waterfront site in Waverton is a genuinely lovely setting and the market is run by North Sydney Council, meaning it skews well-organised and community-minded. Lodging your EOI now puts you in the queue early.
The Finders Keepers Sydney (Late Applications) (curated, mid to established; stall fees via application). The May 2026 Carriageworks market has passed, but the Finders Keepers site notes that late applications are welcome for future rounds, and November applications were open until 29 May 2026. Keep an eye on the apply page and get your portfolio shoot ready now so you are not scrambling when the next call opens.
💡 Beyond the Booth: Real Ways Sydney Artists Sell
Café and boutique consignment walls. Independent cafés and boutiques across Newtown, Marrickville, Glebe and Surry Hills regularly hang and sell artwork on consignment, typically taking 30 to 40 percent commission with no upfront fee. Walk in with a small, framed portfolio of six to eight pieces, ask to speak to the owner (not during a rush), and pitch a four to six week rotation. You leave the work, they do the selling, and you collect a cheque. The lower price-point works, around $80 to $250 per piece moves reliably in café settings.
Collect emails at every single booth. A small sign at your stall that says something like "Join my list for studio sales and first access" with a QR code to a free Mailchimp or Klaviyo signup form is the single highest-value thing you can do at any market. Every person who signs up is worth far more than a one-time sale because you can invite them to your next event, your next print drop, or your next studio open day. Aim for 20 new signups per market day as a target.
Low-entry print tier under $100. If your originals sit above $300, make sure you also have a tier of art prints, cards, or small studies priced at $20 to $80. This is not about devaluing your work. It is about giving someone who loves your art a way to take something home today. Those buyers often come back for originals later, and they tell their friends. Stock a mix of sizes and keep at least one item under $30 for gifting impulse buys in the winter market season.
Pop-up show in a vacant retail space. The Neon Marketplace lists vacant spaces across NSW that are available for pop-up events and exhibitions, some at very low or nil cost in exchange for activating an empty shopfront. A group of three to five artists sharing a two-weekend pop-up splits the cost dramatically and creates a genuine opening-night event that draws press and email list signups. Inner West and Parramatta both have active vacancy programs worth exploring through the Neon platform.
🚗 Worth the Drive (these skew more established)
SMASH! 2026 Artist Market, ICC Sydney Darling Harbour (competitive, more established; artist market applications are now closed for 2026). On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July at ICC Sydney Exhibition Centre, SMASH! is Australia's largest anime convention and its Artist Market features hundreds of stalls from artists all over the country. Applications for 2026 are closed and successful artists have been notified, but if you make fan art, illustration, prints or pop-culture work, add SMASH! 2027 to your calendar right now. The convention is expected to draw at least 50,000 attendees in 2026, and even being in the audience gives you an invaluable look at what sells and how the best artist-alley setups are structured.
Finders Keepers Melbourne Winter Market, Royal Exhibition Building (curated, established; late applications via their apply page; $7 to $10 visitor entry). Running Friday 10 to Sunday 12 July in Carlton, this is the sister event to the Sydney market and draws a creative, design-literate crowd who spend. If you are interstate-capable and your work photographs beautifully, the Finders Keepers Melbourne round is a strong portfolio builder and a chance to test a new audience. Check for late applications directly with the team.
If you want a hand figuring out which of these suits your work best, or if you need help writing a booth application or consignment pitch, just ask. Happy to help you put your best foot forward this July.
