With this work, I begin a series of portraits of Individuals (Persons with a capital letter) who have articulated—or continue to articulate—the Word of God and His will within the life and for the future history of my Motherland Ukraine.

In the past, at the courts of tsars and kings there were such special people (a unique type of person): the "holy fool". They alone were permitted to speak whatever was on their minds—and often, what they spoke was the Word of Truth, the Word from God...

Gesha is one of such PROPHET for Ukraine…

Not because of his "foolishness" :)))) but because a singer—who has been russian-speaking since his childhood—produces prophetic songs of bottomless depth, exclusively in the Ukrainian language…

'Out of the heavens He let you hear His voice to discipline and admonish you; and on earth He let you see His great fire, and you heard His words from the midst of the fire. '

Starting a series with intention like that, naming exactly who you're painting and why before the brush even moves, that keeps the whole thing from wandering. I've watched projects lose their spine halfway through when the reason was fuzzy from the start. You've anchored yours in something clear enough to carry weight across however many portraits it takes.

THANK YOU for your candor. 1. In such a challenging project, it is IMPOSSIBLE to accomplish ANYTHING through human effort alone... therefore, I rely SOLELY on the One Who inspired me to undertake this project. 2. He (the Inspirer of this project) has already shown me up to 10 people—Individuals (modern Ukrainian Prophets) that I know, or used to know (sadly, in the past)😥

That's a different kind of trust entirely, letting something larger than yourself guide the work.

That's a portrait grounded in something bigger than likeness. The decision to mark a series around people who spoke truth in their moment, that's the kind of patient project I respect.

Without trust TO God, it would have been IMPOSSIBLE to carry out such a project through human effort alone... so I simply answer Him: “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)

That kind of surrender is what makes the work hold. Can't fake that.
