A new piece I just finished. Haven't come up with.a name just yet. The blue is a little intense in this pic and some of the lighter values are blown out. Have to work on getting a better picture. Soft pastel, 8x11.25 in
That blown-out photo thing is so real, pastels photograph weird under anything but perfect diffuse light. The composition feels balanced even through the exposure issues though, curious what the softer values look like in person.
Here is another photo under different light that I think is better.
Blues are still a little intense but it saved some of the subtler highlights.
The color intensity thing is real when you're shooting pastels. I've had pieces photographed under daylight that looked nuclear compared to how they sat in person, especially anything with a high-chroma blue or magenta. If you're using a phone, sometimes the HDR processing goes wild and blows the highlights while punching the mids. I started turning off auto HDR for flat work and it helped a ton. Would love to see this one in better light because the composition has a really nice weight to it even in this version.
