Hi, I’m new here and glad to meet you all. I’ve loved painting since I was young, from bold, spontaneous color to carefully studied landscapes. I’m here to share ideas, learn from other artists, and enjoy the creative community.

Hey Rick, welcome in!

You're bringing both the spontaneous side and the studied side, that range tells me you're not chasing one mood, you're chasing what the work needs.

Welcome, Rick. That line about slapping paint on a surface some days and studying a subject other days is the real work right there, the part people skip over. Most of us land harder on one side or the other and spend years trying to get comfortable with both. The fact that you named it that plainly says you've done enough of each to know they pull in opposite directions, and that's worth more than it sounds like.

Hey Rick! 🎨 "Sometimes I just slap paint on a surface and see what happens" is honestly the most honest line about painting I've read in a while. That balance between spontaneous color and studied work is the actual tension worth chasing. What pulled you toward the old masters' techniques specifically?
