🎪 Show & Sell — Where to Display & Sell Your Art Around Montreal (July)
Happy July, Montreal artists! Summer is absolutely electric out there right now, and the good news is that there are real, concrete places to get your work in front of buyers this month, from a laid-back sliding-scale table at a neighbourhood market all the way up to a 65,000-person pop culture convention. Here is your practical guide, sorted from easiest to step into to a little more of a stretch. Let's go.
🟢 Easiest to Start (beginner friendly, low cost)
Montréal Makers Market (MMM) (beginner friendly, sliding-scale or free tables available). This weekly indoor artisan market runs through the summer with 75 or more vendors each weekend, and the organizer is explicit that the mission is to keep participation affordable for any vendor, regularly offering free tables and a sliding scale to support small Quebec businesses. Free admission for shoppers means solid foot traffic with zero barrier. Check the MMM Instagram and Linktree for the current application link and upcoming dates.
Montreal Public Markets Vendor Program (beginner friendly, seasonal rental fees vary). Jean-Talon, Atwater, and Maisonneuve markets actively recruit artisan vendors and food processors to diversify their offerings. The Grand Marché Maisonneuve hosts special events through July, including one on July 18. This is one of the most visible, high-foot-traffic settings in the city for a local maker. Hit the "Become a vendor" page on their official site to see rental options.
Montreal Arts and Crafts Market (beginner friendly, $70 per day vendor fee). This curated seasonal market lands at Le Centre Sheraton Montreal on July 25 and 26, 2026, running 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The vendor fee is $70 per day, applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and space is limited, so get your submission in now. It welcomes original art, handmade crafts, jewelry, ceramics, prints, textiles, and home décor.
🟡 Step Up Markets (curated, bigger crowds)
Montreal Art Center Emerging Artist Exhibition (emerging artists of all disciplines, $200 to $400 wall fee depending on size and location). Running July 10 to 24, 2026, in Griffintown, this not-for-profit group show is specifically built to give non-member artists gallery time at a budget-accessible price point. Open to painters, potters, fashion designers, jewellery makers and more. Upload your portfolio directly on their site or email emergingart@montrealartcenter.com to apply.
Avenue Mont-Royal Pedestrian Street (Pop-up / Street Fair Pitching) (all levels, free to explore as a strategy). Tourisme Montréal confirms that Mont-Royal Avenue runs as the longest pedestrianized street in North America all summer, with large-scale art installations, new murals, and the RU Festival (July 8 to 12) bringing in concerts, dance, and circus arts. The foot traffic here during the RU Festival week is enormous. This is a prime moment to approach café terraces and boutiques along the strip about a short consignment or pop-up arrangement while crowds are already coming in for the programming.
Montreal Comiccon Artist Alley (illustrators, printmakers, concept artists, more established, table fees vary). July 3 to 5 at the Palais des congrès, this convention draws over 65,000 visitors across three days. The Artist Alley sits on a sprawling 200,000-square-foot exhibit floor alongside specialty retailers, and the organizers describe it as a space for everyone from legends to up-and-comers waiting to be discovered. If your work touches illustration, prints, fan art, or original comics, this crowd is deeply motivated to buy. Apply via the official Artist Form linked on their Exhibitors page.
📢 Open Calls and Databases
CaFÉ (CallForEntry.org) (all levels, free to create an artist profile). CaFÉ is the foremost call-for-entries platform in North America, with around 170 active art competition and exhibition listings at any given time. Artists sign up free, build a portfolio, and apply to multiple calls from a single dashboard. Filter by location to find Quebec and Canada-based opportunities with July and August deadlines.
EntryThingy Aggregated Call List (all levels, free to browse). This database pulls from EntryThingy, CaFÉ, Zapplication, ArtCall, ShowSubmit, and independent galleries, giving you 970 or more active calls for artists in one place. Bookmark this and check it weekly through the summer.
ELAN Quebec Calls for Submissions + Akimbo.ca (Quebec-focused, all levels, free). ELAN Quebec maintains a running list of calls relevant to English-speaking Quebec artists. They also point to akimbo.ca, which runs a newsletter specifically tracking visual and new media art calls across Quebec and the rest of Canada. Subscribe to both so nothing slips past you.
💡 Beyond the Booth: Real Ways Montreal Artists Sell This Month
Café and boutique consignment walls, Plateau and Mile-End. Mile-End is deeply rooted in artist and immigrant communities, with outdoor markets and local craft culture baked into the neighbourhood. The Plateau is festival central all summer, with boutiques and restaurants actively participating in street programming. This is the month to walk in with three or four framed pieces and a simple one-page consignment agreement (50/50 is standard to propose, then negotiate). Aim for spots that already have art on their walls, which tells you the owner is open to it.
Set up at the pedestrianized street energy in Griffintown and Little Burgundy. Griffintown has emerged as a hub for street art festivals and summer markets. Little Burgundy's À l'Ouest de la Dame returns to Notre-Dame Street West in July (between Atwater and Vinet) as a free, inclusive neighbourhood celebration with food, jazz, sports, and art. Talk to organizers early about whether vendor spots are available, or simply use the foot traffic to have conversations that lead to studio-visit bookings or list-building.
The under-$100 intro print strategy. Whatever markets and shows you do this month, bring at least one price point under $100. Open-air summer crowds buy on impulse when the price feels accessible. A small edition print, a postcard pack, or a matted 5x7 original lets someone who loves your work say yes without hesitation, and it starts a collector relationship that can grow.
Build your list at every booth. At every market and show this month, have a simple sign-up sheet or a QR code linking to your email list. Offer something small in return, like a free digital wallpaper or a behind-the-scenes photo. People who did not buy today but loved your work will buy later if you stay in touch. This is the single highest-return habit a booth artist can build.
🚗 Worth the Drive (these skew more established)
Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (TOAF) (more established, juried, booth fees apply, about 5.5 hours from Montreal). July 10 to 12, 2026, at Nathan Phillips Square. Artists in Canada describes this as Canada's leading contemporary outdoor and online art fair, and artists can choose to participate in-person, online, or both. The TOAF's 2026 edition includes a curated exhibition on the longevity of creative practice alongside the open fair. If you have a strong body of work and want national visibility, this is the one. Applications are typically reviewed well in advance, so check the TOAF site immediately for any remaining spots or waitlist options.
Plein Art Québec 2026 (professional artisans, juried by CMAQ standards, about 2.5 hours from Montreal, runs Aug 11 to 23, apply now). Plein Art is the largest summer arts and crafts show in Quebec, bringing together 80 or more professional artisans in the Parc de l'Esplanade in Vieux-Québec, with free admission drawing over 100,000 visitors across the run. Every piece shown must be recognized as fine craft by the Conseil des métiers d'art du Québec, so this is a more established, juried context. Applications are open now through metiersdart.ca, and the deadline is coming up fast. If your practice is at a professional level, this is an unmissable August opportunity to apply for right now, in July.
