KELLY'S KINDNESS

24x18" watercolor on Arches

We moved on the 1st of Sept 2022 and on the 9th I was informed that my son had been killed. The next day a neighbor that had come over to repurpose our moving boxes, caught my current state of mind after my nightmare. He returned with a beautiful bouquet from him and his wife.
I wanted to remind myself what a gift it was to received such kindness and comfort from a stranger. The folks are different in Texas.

And the darkness just behind the bouquet… being eclipsed for the moment in beauty and kindness. Unimaginable…

That kind of kindness, in that moment, deserves to be held. The title carries as much of the piece as the medium does.

What a way to hold that moment. The fact that you painted it at all, after that news, says something about what making does when words don't reach. Texas kindness through a September that must have felt impossible.
