Black and White Photography
Post image 1

I've been photographing Yosemite and the Sierras Mountains over my whole life and as a kid I loved seeing Ansel Adams black and white prints at the studio in Yosemite Village. Here's a photograph of Bridalveil Fall from my 5D Mark3 from one of my visits last year. I still love black and white photography.

Growing up with those Adams prints at Yosemite Village and then coming back to the same places your whole life, that's a beautiful kind of devotion. You're building your own visual history of the Sierras.

Coming back to the same place over years is how you learn what belongs to it and what was passing through. Adams had that with Yosemite too, and it shows in work that knows its ground that well.

Black and white does something no other processing can with that kind of geography. You're carrying forward what Adams understood about those rock faces and water.
