I photographed this spiral staircase from below, where its sweeping railings lead the eye toward the ornate ceiling and chandelier. In black and white, the repeating lines and contrast give the architecture a quiet sense of movement.

Which detail do you notice first—the staircase, the ceiling, or the chandelier?

I think this photograph would make a thoughtful architectural accent in your space.

Black and white was the right call for this. Shooting from below like that turns architecture into something that breathes, and the contrast between the ornate ceiling work and the clean sweep of the railings keeps it from feeling too busy.

The repeating lines pull me in first, then the ceiling holds me there. I shot a stairwell in an old courthouse once, same spiral pull, and it took me three trips back to get the framing right because I kept losing the balance between the curve and what it led to. You nailed that here.

Thank you. Since this location isn't open to the public every day, I had to make the most of the opportunity to take photos. I have 11 shots from different angles 🙂

Eleven shots to find it, that's the work nobody sees. Worth every trip back.
