"Gotham City" Series | Farewell to "Wow Westminster"
One of the most iconic landmarks along the Fraser River, "Wow Westminster," was a striking 140-foot installation that became a visual centerpiece of New Westminster. Designed by renowned Brazilian artist José Resende for the Vancouver Biennale’s Open Air Museum, the sculpture featured four massive shipping containers cleverly arranged to form a towering "W."
Captured here as part of my "Gotham City" series, this image memorializes the artwork in its haunting beauty, just before its removal in August 2020. Sadly, the structure fell victim to the devastating Pier Park fire, leaving only its memory reflected in the dark waters of the Fraser.
Through this image, I aimed to evoke the moody, industrial essence of both the sculpture and the city—an ode to a piece of urban art that is now lost forever.
